Fluent and far away
Article Abstract:
Accountants interested in overseas careers need to have a high level of technical skills in addition to fluency in the languages of the countries to which they hope to be assigned. Language is certainly not a problem for UK accountants looking for jobs in other English-speaking countries. However, competition for jobs is often tight in these countries, so much so that the best opportunities may lie with US or UK multinationals that wish to maintain a link with the UK by hiring a UK-trained accountant. In non-English-speaking countries, on the other hand, linguistic proficiency is essential for UK accountants, with the most useful second languages being German, French, Spanish and Italian. Having the correct personality is also important, with recruiters often specifying the need for candidates who are determined, people- and career-oriented, and able to adapt to different cultural milieus.

Article Abstract:
Historic Flying Ltd. is a small company based in Audley End in Essex, England. Founded in 1991 by former computer industry executive Tim Routsis, the company specializes in the restoration of World War Two fighter planes. With just 26 technical people and three administrative personnel on its staff, Historic Flying Ltd. has built up its turnover to 1.5 million pounds and gained acclaim from customers from across the world. Routsis launched his company by negotiating a complex deal with the UK's Ministry of Defence to acquire five vintage Spitfire fighters that had long been used as gate guardians at RAF bases. Since then, Routsis has expanded Historic Flying's work to other World War Two planes. Prices of aircraft restored by Routsis' company vary, ranging from as low as 100,000 pounds sterling to as much as 800, 000 pounds.
